Let’s imagine for a moment that your path to into the field of InfoSec is really a war. A war between an intelligent and powerful group of people in the cloud. Secretly running the internet, all of it’s connected devices, and then ultimately…the rest of us. The end users.

That being so, let’s look at this as a war between those who can hack and those who can hack not. The 1’s and 0’s. Because in the end it all boils down to 1s and 0’s anyway, right? (If it’s a 1 it’s turned on, if it’s a 0 it’s turned off).

So then what’s the objective? The objective is that through this journey of hacking you discover a path of justice, equality, and a way out of this conspiracy that’s bigger than any freaking hacker on the planet. Heck, any hacker worth their medal who gets physical access to a device can “own” it.

Let’s say for example you’re in that greater percent of us who don’t have the leisure of working remotely. The ones who have to physically be there. Those of us who are expected to be there on time at our desks, cubicles, etc. getting it in. Have these words or similar ever ran through your mind, “My job owns me?”

So who’s the hacker here? I’ll wait.

“The conspiracy that’s bigger than all of us, the guys that play God without permission” (eps1.0_hellofriend.mov)

Pardon my rambling. I get like this at times. Especially during times when all I wanna do is solve interesting problems. But the problems that seem most intriguing are ones like keeping the bills paid, shorties fed, clothes on their backs and a stable roof over their heads….

Instead, there’s the other problem of, in the midst of solving all of these problems, watching out for and being watched by disturbed youth and disgruntled employees that had a bad day yesterday and today they’re armed with an AK.

Please, bear with me. I’m almost done.

You see, I don’t wanna be the Tupac or Biggie Smalls of InfoSec. I wanna be the Sean Carter. But I’m not. I’m the Peta’Loc! And for him it doesn’t matter how good of a developer he is, how awesome of a hacker or network administrator he may be. For him, any wrong move and the illusion of a forgiving society reminds him of a reflection resembling one that you’d see in the cast of the movie Menace II Society.

I thought this was America, people?

In closing I’ll say this- If just by moving sand in our shoes from the beach back to our homes we’ll be changing the world, we must realize that it will take many lifetimes to change our current world in this manner.
